  • A few days ago, the research paper on acupuncture treatment of migraine carried out by Professor Wang Wei's research team (BMJ, 2020) was listed as a major research progress in headache by Nature, arguing that "this study solved the major problem of unreasonable control Settings in previous studies", and reprinted the main research content.

  • On October 18, the research team of Professor Wang Wei of the Department of Neurology of Tongji Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology visited the 40-year-old Mr. Chen in Henan. Mr. Chen is the first group of acupuncture treatment migraine hand acupuncture subjects, suffering from migraine for more than 10 years, an average of 2 to 3 times a month, nausea and vomiting, but also afraid of light and noise. Five years ago, I participated in the clinical trial of acupuncture treatment of migraine, and insisted on completing 20 treatments, and my headache has not occurred yet.

  • The study on acupuncture for migraine lasted three years. From June 2016 to November 2018, Tongji Hospital clinically recruited 150 patients with episodic migraine without acupuncture experience to participate in the clinical trial. The average age of the subjects was 36.5 years old. The subjects were randomly assigned to the hand acupuncture group, the fake acupuncture group and the regimen group according to the ratio of 2:2:1, and a total of 144 people completed the whole study cycle. The hand acupuncture group follows the traditional principle of "identifying channels and selecting points", acts on specific acupoints, and is induced by a variety of traditional methods such as finger twisting, lifting and inserting, pressing and flicking the needle handle, so as to obtain "obtaining Qi" and play a therapeutic role in the disease. Research data show that it takes effect earlier, has a larger effect value and has a longer curative effect.

  • This research work was also named as the top ten academic Progress of TCM in 2020. The selection was organized by the Chinese Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine, nominated by experts, voted by the chairmen of branches of the Chinese Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine, reviewed by experts of the review committee, and finally determined the top ten academic advances in Chinese medicine in 2020.

  • Professor Wang Wei said that clinically, quite a number of migraine patients have poor drug treatment efficacy, or can not tolerate the adverse reactions of drugs. There are also some patients who are easy to become dependent on drugs, which reduces the clinical efficacy of drugs, thus making acute migraine chronic. The results of this study suggest that acupuncture can be recommended as an effective treatment for migraine for clinical decision making.Notably, this study found that fake acupuncture did produce a slight preventive effect even with non-invasive fake acupuncture, suggesting that in addition to focusing on the specificity of acupuncture effects, non-specific factors should also be focused on, such as improving patient expectations and improving the doctor-patient relationship, which may also improve the clinical efficacy of hand acupuncture in the treatment of migraine. It provides a new option for the treatment of refractory diseases.
